Calculating your yearly advertising budget can be a scary exercise for any business and professional photographers can spend thousands of dollars a year alone just on magazine ads.  Instead of spending all your money on ads and bridal fairs invest some in your existing clients and work towards building a referral based business.  Following you will find some marketing ideas that we have found work well with some of our clients.

Custom Thank You Cards

Our Custom Thank You cards are a beautiful mount that can work wonders for your studio promotion.  Custom Thank You cards are made from a white felt board and hold a single 2½x3½ photo on the front of the card.  The inside of the card is left blank for writing and the back cover is personally embossed with your full studio details.   Lab printing costs are reduced for 2½x3½" prints that are printed in a high quantity making this a very affordable way to help advertise your business.

TIP: Include 75 Gift cards with every wedding package.  Have them all embossed with your studio details on the backcover, including your website details, and the bride and groom can use them as wedding thank you cards by writing a message inside.   If you want to go the extra mile add in a slip of paper letting their family and friends know that the photos will be on your website for viewing and any orders placed within 30 days will receive a 25% discount.

TIP:  For Portrait orders over $1000 include 15 free gift cards, once again embossed with your studio details, for your portrait clients to give to family and friends.  Inside place a promotional piece, with a special client code, offering a free portrait sitting for any friends or family who book within 30 days.  Let your original portrait client know that for every booking that comes through from their client code they will receive 1 free 10x7 print.  A great way to increase studio bookings.

Brag Books

Brag Books are a great product to use as an inexpensive giveaway for those clients who have spent over a certain amount in sales.  Your clients will adore these cute albums and they are small enough to fit into handbags so they will always be on hand to show family and friends.

TIP: Give one free Brag Book for every portrait client who spends over $2000.  On one of the sides in the album mount a photo with all your studio contact details.  The clients will really appreciate the gesture and will do your advertising for you.

Zig Zags

Zig Zags are a less expensive option than the Brag Books although can be used in the same way.  You may even want to offer a free Zig Zag with sales over $1500 and then up their freebie to a Brag Book if sales go over $2000.

Image Portfolios

We have found the Image Portfolios to be a huge seller this year and is a great option for those extra images from a portrait session.

TIP:  Offer the Image Portfolio on your price list at a set price such as $1250 for an 11x14 Image Portfolio with 15 images BUT also have an option for clients to purchase the Image Portfolio for only $850 if they spend over $2000 on frames etc.   Everyone loves a bargain and it might even encourage them to go up a frame size just to go over the initial investment to obtain the special.

Image Gallery

Our Image Galleries with custom covers are not only perfect for weddings and portraits, not to mention corporate clients but they are also a great form of advertising.

TIP: Pick a couple of reception centres, have an Image Gallery made with the reception centre's photo on the front cover and their name etc, and fill it with your images taken at that reception centre.  The reception centre will love the album and will proudly display it - just make sure you have your studio details and website address on the back cover so prospective brides know where to find you!

Photojunction

For those wedding clients already using Photojunction, have you thought of using the portrait section for your wedding clients?

TIP:  Design a couple of frame options for each bride and groom to view when they come in to pick up their album.  In the portrait section of Photojunction you can design a series of frame templates making it very quick and easy to create frames for your clients.  You can project these frames full size on the wall so your client can see exactly how big, or little, the frame is.  It makes selling wedding wall portraits easy!

Guest Books

Our range of Gallery Albums have proven to be very popular as Guest Books.  Simply mount a blank mat on the left hand side for guests to sign and a mat on the right hand side for your image.  If you have done a pre wedding shoot use one of the images and design an Image Gallery with the bride and grooms photo on the front cover.

TIP:  A great offer at bridal fairs to encourage the bride and groom to book on the day.
